History

The Hot Carls are a eight-piece Skacore band from Mesa, Arizona. It was formed by a bunch of mediocre teenagers who were tiered of not getting laid, but to there disappointment, being in a crapy Ska band doesn't help.

It was in early June of 2001 at Greg's graduation party (it wasn't really a party. There was a bunch of his family there, so we kinda just messed around in his room). After I had broke the blinds in his room, we were hanging out outside of his house, wondering what we could do. It was me, Tyler, Geoff, Tim, Brad, and Andy. After a while of bouncing around no ideas, I said that we could go to my house and play my guitar.

We had been talking about starting a band for the entire second semester, but we never did anything to get the ball rolling. The subject first came up on the way home from an RxBandits concert. When we first started talking about it, Tyler was going to play the drums, Brad was going to play the guitar, and I was going to play the bass.

Anyways, when we got to my house, I started to play my guitar on a little 10 watt fender amp, and I guess they thought my songs were pretty cool( We ended up keeping two of them, Drunk and No Name). At that point, Andy said that he wanted to play the bass, so our band was then Tyler still at the drums, Andy at bass, Me and Brad at the guitars.

We didn't actually start playing until Tyler bought his drums, which then we started to play in Tyler's room. Our first sessions were really terrible (Not like were any better now). Tyler played drums for a little bit way back in junior high, but besides that I was the only one to known how to play.

Now Enters Marcus. He first joined our band as our lead singer, but that didn't turn out as easy as it seemed. My parents have a little studio in my backyard that they were suppose to use for their art, but they weren't using very much at all. Actually, the only thing it was used for was the storage of a bunch of worthless shit( my parents have a problem with getting rid of stuff. SIMPLIFY, MAN). I asked them that if I cleaned it out they would let me use it, and my dad coming from a high school band himself, sympathized with me. Once me, Marcus, and Tyler spent an entire day cleaning it out (and nearly getting killed by countless scorpions and spiders), we had a really cool place to practice.

At this point, brad decided to quite the guitar and start playing the trumpet, and Marcus sung less and played more of the trumpet. Since we are probably the poorest band in the world, we were really strapped for equipment. We were using My parents stereo from 81' for a PA and two 30 watt guitar amps( one for the guitar and one for the bass). Then a golden opportunity came up for me to earn some cash. I had quite playing baseball that last year, but both of my brothers were playing football and baseball. For them, my parents made this new rule, that said if you play a sport for the school, you didn't have to pay for your car insurance. But I hade already paid for mine while I was playing baseball, so they would pay me back if I played a sport. I decided to run in Cross Country, mainly because Andy and Brad were in it and it was at the beginning of the year.

The entire summer, we had this tradition of "Afro-Engineering a Knock" of this Brian's house. We did it several times, and almost got caught a few. Brian was in Cross Country, too. I forget how it came up, but my brother had a shitty sax from elementary school, and I asked him if he wanted to be in our band, and he said yes, and i laughed, and Andy cried, and the dog barked, then it was really quite......

We'll we went on for a while, doing out "thang" as we liked to call it, when one day me and Marcus went to Millano's to get some guitar strings, and on our way home, we decided to stop by a thrift store. While there, we discovered a trombone for only Thirty Dollars!!! (probably because it stunk like ass). Now we had this trombone, but nobody to play it, so we asked out friend Tim if he wanted to, so he joined up.

Now, we are thinking about adding Geoff on the guitar (that makes a grand total of 8, Hurray!), so you don't want to mess with us! HE'S CRAZY!
